History of Ice Cream

Take a guess. How old do you think ice cream is? Which flavors were invented first and how? What did people do when there were no freezers? Fear not, as the premier company for starting your own business which is just like ice cream franchises, we’re here to give you a few fun facts about something we (and probably you) love: ice cream!

ice1

The exact date of invention for ice cream isn’t known, but we do know that among the first great ice cream lovers in history was Alexander the Great, who loved to mix snow and ice with honey and nectar. Another big historical figure who famously loved ice cream is Roman Emperor Nero, who was in the habit of sending runners to the mountains to fetch snow so he could mix it with fruits and juices. So the next time you want to feel like the king of the world, maybe find the nearest Mini Melts vending machine for a Cookies and Cream or Cotton Candy Ice flavored ice cream as a hark back to the great ice cream lovers before you that ruled the world.

Maybe Emperor Nero’s frowning likeness was sculpted after he was informed the palace had ran out of ice cream.

How ice cream found its way to Europe again after ancient times is debatable, as some claim that Marco Polo brought recipes with him when he returned from his trips in China, at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, while others disagree. Whether he really did or not remains questionable, but by the 17th century King Charles I of England was so fond of ice cream he was rumored to have offered his personal ice cream maker a lifetime pension for keeping the recipe a secret. Aren’t we all lucky to live in a time when, if a craving strikes, we can just go to the nearest Mini Melts vending machine without needing to provide anyone a lifetime pension or travel to China…

The first known mention of ice cream in the United States comes from a 1744 letter that was written by a guest of Maryland Governor William Bladen. And the first known advertisement of ice cream was run by New York Gazette in 1777 and promised readers that ice cream would be available “almost every day.”

Imagine how far we’ve come from sending servants to mountains for snow to have it mixed with fruit. In 2015, you don’t have to have the king’s favor or emperor’s approval to start your own ice cream business. All you need is to contact us at Mini Melts to hear about our business opportunities that have great finance rates, awesome products and much more.

US Is the Second Biggest Ice Cream Market in the World

2014 was an interesting year for the ice cream markets, in multiple ways. First of all, it was the first year when the global sales of ice cream reached $50 billion. By comparisons, depending on statistics used, that’s approximately the same global market value as coffee.
Another thing that makes 2014 important is that it’s the year when China became the largest ice cream market in the world, edging out the United States by 0.1 billion liters: in 2014, the United States consumed 5.8 billion liters of ice cream while China consumed 5.9 billion liters. Current statistics predict that both the volume and value sales of ice cream will continue to rise globally, and China’s lead over the US will grow.

It’s important to note, however, that, on average, consumers in the USA still enjoy the most ice cream in the world – and it’s not even a close competition. On average, a person in the US eats 18.4 liters of ice cream in a year. That is a huge number, considering the average is 4 liters per person per year in China. Other Western countries get a little closer, though, with the UK averaging 5 liters and Australia 10 liters of ice cream per person per year.

Now why are we telling you all this? Partially because it’s simply interesting to know, but also because when we say owning an ice cream business, as an alternative to an ice cream franchise, is a great opportunity with real growth potential and a favorable market, we’re not just making it up. Statistics show that, both within the US as well as globally, ice cream consumption will continue to rise in the coming years, which is why this is the perfect time to contact us and ask about our great finance rates, amazing products and more.

Top Three Fall Flavors

With fall, cooler weather is an unavoidable fact of life but, for true ice cream aficionados, a little cold doesn’t mean the end of ice cream cravings. And, we are nothing if not true ice cream aficionados! That’s why for our first fall post we decided to combine work and pleasure by talking about our favorite ice cream flavors to indulge in when we don’t want to go out into the pouring rain and darkness.

  1. Cookie Dough

For colder times of the year, we tend to prefer creamier, richer ice cream flavors. And, as our top-selling flavor, Cookie Dough deserves to be mentioned first. We tried really hard, but couldn’t come up with a more heavenly combination than cookie dough and ice cream for a night in with your friends, loved ones or (best of all, since you’ll get all the cookie dough ice cream) by yourself.

  1. Mint Chocolate

Chocolate! Officially the only thing that can beat cookie dough on a cold fall night, when you’ve snuggled under three blankets on your sofa, is chocolate. And for ice cream purposes, mint chocolate is the perfect flavor combination, with the mint bringing out and balancing the rich chocolate flavor. If you’re not always in the mood to stand in line at your local grocery store (who is?), that’s what our Mini Melts vending machines are for: Delicious mint chocolate ice cream without the tormenting wait.

  1. Birthday Cake

They have birthdays in the fall too! And even if they don’t, it doesn’t really matter. Without wanting to sound too glib, we pretty much think every time you see a Mini Melts vending machine it’s like your birthday all over again. So why not celebrate it with a little birthday cake? And speaking of awesome flavor combinations, there aren’t a lot of things better than a birthday cake and ice cream wrapped into one delicious cup.

Bonus Option: Rainbow Ice

We picked this one as a bonus option because one of the best things about fall is the beautiful color schemes of the changing leaves. So, to either compete with or complement them, Rainbow Ice is the perfect delicious and colorful choice. If you haven’t tried it out yet, next time you see a Mini Melts ice cream vending machine, maybe it’s time to bring more color to your life…

Why Is Ice Cream a Great Choice for a Business Venture?

We at Mini Melts genuinely believe selling ice cream is one of the best businesses to be in, and that’s why we wanted to share some pointers on why we think that. The following is just scratching the surface of what makes ice cream such a great product, but at least it will get you started!

Positive Brand

Who doesn’t love ice cream? Well, to be fair, not everyone does. But very few people hate it or have strong negative feelings towards it. For most potential customers, thinking about ice cream brings to mind happy memories of childhood. Either way, it’s not a hard product to sell nor is it a product that, in a vending machine, needs constant attending.  So, if you want to sell a product where you don’t need to work hard to convince the customers of its awesomeness, ice cream is the perfect choice (it is quite literally like taking candy from a baby).

Great in Recession

There are very few recession-proof products, but ice cream is about as good as it gets (pun intended). In fact, with the most recent recession that started in 2008, most ice cream businesses reported sales going up. The reasons for this are varied, but perhaps the most important one is that, even in the midst of economic difficulties, people want to treat themselves and their families to a little luxury in their everyday lives. Ice cream is the perfect inexpensive way to buy a little something special for yourself and your kids, which makes it the perfect recipe for a recession-proof business.

Established Business Models

Did you know that selling ice cream is an ancient business? It’s been estimated that the first ice cream was made by the Chinese around 3000 B.C., and it’s claimed it was Marco Polo who later introduced it to Europe. If you think about it, if he’d been born 700 years later, Marco Polo might have been the perfect person to start a Mini Melts franchise in some exciting, exotic location. The long history of ice cream is what guarantees that there is plenty of information out there on what to do and what not to do. In addition to the vast knowledge about what makes an ice cream business a success, we at Mini Melts also offer support with figuring out things like choosing the perfect location and pricing for your vending machine.

Bonus: Access to Ice Cream

In case this needs to be said, one of the best things about having an ice cream vending machine in your business location or under your control is that you know exactly where to go when that yearning for a perfectly delicious cup of ice cream strikes!

You Can Find Success Through “Hand-Picked” Opportunities

Entering the battlefield of business ownership can be extremely enticing, especially for those who are caught in the so-called “cycle” of working a job. Consider this, though: without careful and concise planning, you will encounter more problems than you need to. You don’t go on a trip before deciding your destination; you plan first. Take some time and plan it out—you can find your success through “hand-picked” opportunities. You have to combine opportunity with planning to create not only a return on investment, but a rewarding experience. Think long and hard before diving into any franchising or business opportunity endeavor, and find your success.

It’s true that we’re one of the most reliable franchise alternative opportunities under $10,000. However, you also have to think about the fact that this is a product that needs to reach consumers in some way. You won’t be building these machines on your front doorstep or in the bank. You have to give just as much thought to where you’re placing your machines and making them worth your time, as you did when you made the leap to change your life in the first place. Time is everything.

Think about it this way. There are 365 days in a year, which equals 8760 hours in total. If you go hard, and work 12 hours a day, every day in the year, that’d be 4,380 hours that you could work every year—this is unrealistic. You’re going to need some time to relax Let’s say you can put in about 8 hours a day. That comes out to 2920 hours, or units, a year that you can extend yourself. Once these are gone, your year is too. And this doesn’t account for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. You need a work/life balance, which will cut into this time even more.

Don’t you want to make sure that you use each of those units as effectively as possible? We think so.

This is where “hand picking” your opportunities comes into play. Pound the pavement. Find some franchise owners that have found success in the past and find out how they managed to achieve that. Find out where the best places are. Understand that your time is limited and you need to make the most out of it.

Go visit some locations and get a feel for them before assuming your ice cream vending machine business will thrive there. See what people are doing. Think about the areas where your business can benefit the most. Beaches, malls, shopping centers, movie theaters, major stores and big restaurants are all big ringers for a location, but you have to learn about that location more—do people have easy access to ice cream already? Are people bringing their kids around there or is it primarily an older crowd? There’s a lot of questions you can ask yourself and a whole lot of introspective thought you need to do before the answers will appear.

By all means, we want you to enjoy our business opportunities, but we want you to do it intelligently. Stay focused and think your opportunities through yourself—advice and personal development helps, but some of it has to come from within. Call us today at 1.888.470.5765 to start your business venture and we’ll be with you every step of the way. Success is born from work, not luck.

Questions to Ask Yourself before Buying Into Any Franchise

It’s great to want to be independent, to shake off the so-called chains of weekly employment and work for yourself, and create your own workforce. However, like any other decision, you must invest in your own life strategically. Our theatrical-style ice cream vending machines are a great way to achieve independence and break into the world of small business, but you must make the decision intelligently and calmly. Look deep within yourself and ask a few questions before getting started with us.

Do you really need to abandon your career right away? Are you really ready to walk away from your income entirely? This might not be the best path of action for you. A wise man once said to work on building your income while you amass your fortune. Don’t be quick to abandon the opportunities you’re currently taking advantage of. You can still build an income from employment while growing your ice cream vending machine empire.

Is there a certain or specific location you have in mind? In this business, location is everything. Brainstorm some locations you feel would be best for your Mini Melts franchise to begin. Find out the people you will have to go through to make this happen. Some will be easier than others. You’re not going to put this vending machine on your driveway, so get ready to do some planning. Never jump into a business opportunity without some planning.

Do you need help thinking of a location? The best way to be successful in business is to find a void, and then fill it. Did you ever wonder why a 25 cent glass of lemonade sold at a child’s lemonade stand sells on a hot day, even if it isn’t cold? It’s because of the combination of the weather crossed with the fact that people want to help that child learn a valuable life lesson. Using similar logic, we can figure that your vending machine should be placed somewhere people will want to cool off with a sweet treat such as amusement parks, outdoor malls in hot weather, and carnivals. Places where people will want to cool off and enjoy a treat for a few bucks without thinking about the cost.

Have you considered using free resources? There are many resources intended to help people start their businesses with help from other business owners throughout their regions. These entities are called Small Business Development Centers, and many areas have one with easy access. Check out your local SBDC for a start, and maybe they, and other individuals close to them, will be able to give you some useful advice.

Are you driven by challenge? Any business opportunity or franchise will come with its own set of challenges, just like the rest of life. Staying on top of your business is necessary and time management can be quite challenging, especially if you own a few dozen ice cream vending machines. Be ready for a challenge, and it’ll pay back in dividends.

Are you prepared for change? Maybe you feel unfulfilled at your current job, like it’s sucking away the best years of your life. You have to be prepared for the drastic changes in your life that will occur when you make the move to work for yourself. No matter what you do, things will change. Nothing stays the same. Make sure that when you’re going through change, you do everything in your power to make it a positive one.

Ask yourself these questions, and don’t be afraid to invest in yourself. Dive right in! Contact us today at 1.888.470.5765 and see where we can get you started.
